D.I.Y Facial

As a Beauty Therapist the question I am asked most often by clients is how to care for their skin.

I advise that where possible you ask a qualified Therapist to diagnose your skin type.  Our skin changes as we age, I had normal skin for most of my life, the odd teenage spot of course but normal skin.  Once I hit the grand old age of 35 I noticed that my skin was changing.   Some dry patches, wrinkles (yikes) and redness around the nose area.  I realised my skin was becoming drier with age and after retraining and being lucky to have a tutor who specialised in skin I then found out that not only was my skin dry it was also dehydrated!  Once diagnosed I was able to properly care and treat my skin.  The steps are many and elaborate but they work and I am once again complimented on the condition of my complexion.

Skin type is one thing but here is what I recommend for daily at home skin care.

Step 1 - Cleanse to remove make up
Step 2 - Cleanse the skin now that the make up has been removed
Step 3 - Tone the skin (it works to restore skin and prep in order for the next steps to work!)
Step 4 - Treat with a serum
Step 5 - Moisturise

and at least once a week you should DIY Spa and have a facial, here's what I suggest
Step 1 - Cleanse to remove makeup
Step 2 - Cleanse skin
Step 3 - Exfoliate
Step 4 - Steam ( put your face over a bowl of hot water with a towel on top, it works honest!)
Step 5 - Use a face mask
Step 6 - Tone
Step 7 - Serum and Moisturise

I know it sounds like a lot of steps but people it will keep your skin treated, clean and in great condition.

So that's what I do, I'm a beauty product junkie so I've got loads on hand lol What do you guys do to care for your skin?

Welcome and hello

Hi guys my name is Germaine and I'm a Beauty Therapist and owner of karma beauty to go in Downpatrick. County Down.  I'm Mum to four boys (mostly grown up or think they are) who loves all things beauty with a strong desire to travel! Holidays are definitely my thing lol. I want to use this Blog to share tips and advice about beauty and skin care and you may even get the odd review on products that I think are worth a mention or places I've visited.  I love to read Blogs and my current reading list on my iPad is long and varied.  I do find it hard to get views from the more mature lady (ahem).  I turned 40 (yikes) last year and as my kids love to remind me I'm err getting on in years.  Apparently still feeling like your in your twenties doesn't count, who knew?

So what can you expect? skincare advice, tips and tricks on getting the most from your at home products and a little insight into my life from my corner of the world.
